Spent a day out in the sun and walking from one area to another. The early morning was spent in Singapore river, casting bread flies to the cromides and the milkfishes, but no takers from them. Only caught a small glass perchlet which was promptly released.

Walking down the coastline towards Marina Promenade, I watched for movements of archers or other predators, but none were in sight. It was not until I walked opposite Tanjong Rhu that I spotted some crescent perches darting about in the waters. Sight-casting to them, I produced 3 decent hook-ups and landed 3 pieces of about 15cm long on mini charlies. All released back into the water without much harm.

After a hearty lunch, I proceeded back to the eastern side, Pasir Ris. After looking around the pond and taking a few pics, I went to the canal next to the pond and caught myself a mayan cichlid :

But they were spooked after that fish and I couldn't fool them anymore with the bread fly or other dries, so I moved back to Siglap canal and sight casted my dry flies to a couple of mudskippers and hooked 2 neatly in the mouth.

This is the first time i heard of anyone fishing for mudskippers.
Did you cast your fly to the mudskippers on land?

I don't know if they are still there but there used to be lots of giant mudskippers in the mangrove mudflats at the Serangoon estuary near the Lorong Halus dump. Another place to find them is the coastal mangrove fringe at Sungei Seletar dam. Also on Pulau Ubin.

Yup, they were on the sides of the banks and I drifted the dries back towards the mudskippers. When they noticed it, I tugged it ajust a lil more to entice them into biting.

Thanks for the spots, may try for the bigger ones some other time Very Happy

When you fight the mudskipper does it swim in the water or skip across the mud?

Searched google for fly-fishing and mudskippers and came up with some interesting links:

Mebbe due to the fact that I'm directly in front of it, it swims away from me in skipping hops across the water. I guess it won't really bother which way it escapes, as long as it can get away from the angler.
