Responding some post that are inquiring about Batam fishing, lets me share some information related

1. Hot spot:
You may refer to the map of Batam or customized your “map” using google earth. I think it will be very useful especially for some angler that never been come to Batam. Some place to start your fishing trip Batam:

a. Barelang
Barelang is refer to Batam Rempang & Galang. It was some island that has been interconnected by barelang bridge. In total there are 6 (six) bridge. You will find many small “harbour” to start your fishing trip there. Usually most recreational angler will start their fishing trip by renting small boat in brigde 1 or bridge 2. The cost of boat rental is about $45. For serious angler usually they will go to bridge 5 or 6 or even start their trip at the end of barelang road. When you will go to Pulau Petong or P Abang better you start from bridge 5. If you wanna try the end of Barelang road, you can start your fishing at Pulau Nguan. Those three spots are the most recommended by local angler. But for recreational purpose, bridge 1 or 2 will be enough.

b. Punggur
I think it’s the most familiar place for Singaporean angler to start their fishing trip in Batam. You may find some fishing charter there (ahi, akau, etc). This place will offer you a good fishing boat for 8 – 12 capacity. The cost is about $400 – 450. So if you want to arrange trip with many angler in boat. Punggur is the easiest way to start your trip.

c. There are still other spot possible (ex: Piayu, Kabil, Tg Uma, etc). but better just start your trip from those 2 spot.

2. Tackle
Bring your 20 lbs gear for bottom fishing. Lower class of tackle 10 – 12 lbs still possible for daytime fishing.

3. Rig
Apollo rig with 1 or 2 hooks attached. The length of leader should be adjusted with the current. Long leader for strong current, and short leader for weak current. If your bring 2 class of tackle, just use long leader on your 20 lbs tackle and short leader on 10 –12 tackle. Your tackle will be ready for any current Smile

4. Bait
Most of batam angler are bottom basher. We used live shrimp for daytime fishing and live sotong for night fishing. Live shrimp is available on the spot, while live sotong will be caught by your deckies on boat.

5. Other
You should also consider in land transport from Sekupang or Batam Center Seaport to your pick up point. If you intend to buy food or drink for fishing supplies, then better you arrange your trip to batam center seaport instead of Sekupang. In Batam Center you will directly find hypermart to complete your supplies.

Hope this information will be usefull for newbie in Batam fishing. Happy fishing…

Regards
Krisno
