Hi i am new to fishing and would like to seek advise before i go on and bought my self my own fish rod.

can expert here please advise me on the setup i would need if i were to fish at mandai reservoir.

i bought a rod and reel before from one of the fishing shop in changi village as recommended by the auntie work there but found that its too heavy and not suitable for lure fishing in reservoir and its now inside my store room collecting dust.

so now seeking advise from expert here. my budget is around 100 dollar for the rod and reel, kindly advise me on type of lure i would need too.

thanks in advance for the helping tips.

Bro, Try to get lower rating rod maybe like 8-16lbs for your rod and for reel, i think a 2500 size would suffice for freshwater or salt luring already, try to be on 20lbs with a thin diameter for u to cast far, hope this helps Smile

Cheers^^

Hi. I read in some of the post, there is fast action and slow action rod, in what way that this rod will affect my fishing experiences? Thanks.

For luring, to start off, you probably would want to look for a 8 - 14lb setup or a 10 - 17lb setup with 10lbs or 14lbs to begin with.

With such a setup you'd probably be able to use a larger variety of lure weights and still get decent distances.

As for fast or slow rating of the rods, it's how much the rod flexes in normal usage. A fast rod bends mainly at the tip with a stiffer butt and achieves a slightly better casting distance.

A slow rod bends all round. Casting distance may be slightly lower but it can allow for a softer cushioning during the fight.

Usage of the different action type rods are meant for different applications. A slow rod would not be able to work poppers or walk the dog lures properly.

And a fast rod may be too reactive and pull out diving plugs out of the fish's mouth as it tries to inhale the lure.

Hi. Any particular brand and model that you can recommend? That not too fast nor too slow? Thanks.

Not really. To each their own. What is great for an angler may not be good for another.

You'd have to try them out and see which you prefer more.

I'd suggest that you go down to the tackle shops and ask them what they have for your usage choice. Outline what you intend to use it for and with which tackle.

That way, they can give you a better idea.
