Someone asked me to help him get a size 3000 spinning reel, for local boat and kelong fishing. I am a multiplier person and know nuts about spinning reels. Someone kind enough to recommend some relatively good shimano or daiwa models that are either < $100 or <$200? Smile. Thanks in advance!

I'm heavily glued into Okuma Trio 30 now. Sturdy construction and performed very well on my boat trips. It's slightly heavier than my Shimano Elf which I have sidelined to onshore fishing. Not a very popular choice in Singapore but instill great confidence compared to other brands (sometimes flimsy construction or plastic materials). I like how rigid the Trio is.

I still like Shimano Elf though... but Trio has higher drag which makes it more suitable for my boat trips. For local boat trips the Trio 30 is enough to hold 150yds of 30lbs Powerpro line but for kelong, your friend might want to consider something with more line capacity so Trio 40 is an option. Fully built for saltwater usage. Money saved can be invested in better lines and tackles.
