Not posted here for a long time, so here's my 5c worth of contribution to the forum.

After many years of fishing, I realized I wanted something halfway between a Hong Kong hook and a jig, it was not until recently that I came upon a solution which was cheap and can be easily made yourself. This is what I came up with. Intead of jigging it, you bounce it along the bottom like a Hong Kong hook. Put on some real sotong tentacles and you are ready to go.

Got the pack of rubber squiddies from Joes. There are 2 sizes, 12cm and 9cm, $2++ each pack. Sinker size J1.5 fits in the big one and J1 for the smaller one, the jig assist hook I spliced myself. Put in the jig assist hook first then squeeze in the sinker. Sinker is nice and snug in the squid so doesn't need to be tied to the leader. I think this setup is perfect for ultra light jigging on 8lb line, just pray you don't get anything too big.

Good idea, but I see that this probably be a one time jig, as when the fish bite, the rubber squid will probably be gone along with the sinker.

Why not widen the hole of the sinker, then use long shank hook with either tapered eye, or small eye like Mustad 3412DT.

Yup, the soft plastic squid is destroyed after 2-3 fish with tentacles missing, but sinker and assist hook is fine. Luckily the plastic squid is cheap and easily replaceable.
