I broke this gear before and went back to fix it but it broke again. But when I went back to fix it the distributorship apparrantly switched hands and the shop I bought both the reel and spare part from can't/won't sell that spare part to me anymore and the new distributor doesn't have it.

Any idea where to buy gears in Singapore? Something of that size and shape? Picture below.

Thanks!

If I not mistaken Siow Chiang use to distribute them, now it's a Malaysian company. You should be able to find out which company by grabbing an old copy of Rod and Line magazine. Sorry, I can recall.

All fishermen are liars except for you and me, and to tell you the truth, I'm not sure about you.

Yup I know. Rapala has taken over the distributorship. Thanks anyway for the help.

Asked them already and they don't seem to have the gear in stock as this is an old model. But the reel is still on both the US and International websites.

I actually went to Siow Chang 1 month ago and managed to buy that particular spare part, that's why I'm quite surprised that they dont have it anymore, both Siow Chang and Rapala.

Just wondering cos Siow Chang still has some Okuma reels on sale (not refering to those in the bargain corner), I wonder if anything goes wrong/spoils and if it still is under the warranty how does the customer get about fixing it?

if this reel is on US website, very likely you can find the spare from those spare part websites, sometime these site can even respond faster than those authorised agent. This is an advantage when you purchase a model that is meant for the US market, support for them is always better than the rest of the world.

i was searching the net last month for a set of gear for my 13 year old daiwa reel. This model doesn't even exist at all. I was about to give up until I chance upon alantani forum, one link lead to another and eventually i found 3 websites selling the parts I need. It's better to search for part than reel model, as some reels use the same part.

I finally bought the gears from mikesreelrepair.com, a set of pinon and drive gear plus shipping from the US cost me S$34 only.

okuma might be a bit tough to find, do you have the part no?

I actually found the part i was looking for on a website, but the shipping to singapore is $50+! so altogether would cost me around S$60+. not really worth it.

was actually just wondering if there are electrical shops that sell gears and etc. like those motor ones, maybe those that sell tamiya cars or small machines. know of anyone?

Hi,

I made some search and this okuma part 17070009 can be the same as daiwa part DAIWA W60-1501 IDLE GEAR

http://stores.tunasreeltroubles.com/-strse-412/DAIWA-W60-dsh-1501-IDLE-GEAR/Detail.bok

Order the part from mikesreelrepair.com, the part cost USD0.72 and shipping is roughly USD8.95. total: <$13.
http://www.mikesreelrepair.com/1501-idle-gear-p-45164.html

order a few pieces since you're likely to need it again.
They uses post office to ship so lead time might be a bit long, but it will arrives.

My last order with them, they don't have the part on hand and make a back-order. I waited 1 month for the back-order and another month for it to be ship to singapore. total 2 months. It's cheap so it's worth the wait, now my 13year old reel feel like new again. Laughing
