hi bro tackreel, here are my answers.
Q-1)Type of fishing rod to bring, short or long rod?
A-any fishing rod 6 feets or shorter, reason is because we only fishing beneath the kelong unless you prefer to cast far out then is all up to your choice.
Q-2)Any limit to how many rod can use?
A- no limit but bringing too many rods and how are you going to guard your rods? will you be moving around like we do? if you only stay at one spot then you are welcome. But I always advice kakis MUST always guard their rods. I hate unattend rods, especially when current change and the line will entangle with other rods.. or the fish has pulled the rod into the water(this happened to my kakis).
Q-3)Is handlines advisable to use there?
A-Yes handlines can be used there but usually handlines will make other kakis abit annoy because usually you will not be guarding the handline. And other kakis like me and most of my kakis usually walk all over the kelong to spot fishing but if I wanted to fish at a good spot but there is or are handlines at that spot and this we the kakis who walk around will not be able to fish at the good spot. When I organized the trip, I usually will tell my kakis not to put handline at certain spot(especially in the big retangular area where the kelong boss will lift up the net to catch bait fish, if I see that, I will use my plier to cut the line after my first warning hehehehe. but usually my kakis will not do that.
Q-4)Type of rig to use, Apollo, floater or single nood?
A- hmm most of my kakis do not use floater, but can use apollo type but only 1 hook please unless you are using your own bait which is not shared with us . when we share the live prawn, I will make sure everyone use 1 hook only. My method is usually the 1 hook at the bottom while using a running sinker along my main line or the leader. Because I do not want the garoupa to aim at my sinker when using the apollo type. hehe
Q-)Type of sinker,i.e. sinker no.
A-most of my trip I oragnized are with goo water current date. thus those sinker I use are size 2 or 3 and not more than size 4 but if unlucky day then got to use size 5 to 6(all this sinkers are for exactly beneath fishing not for casting far out).
Q-6)Need to bring any rod holder?
A- hmm best is to bring your own as some of the rod holder are not that stable, might fall into the water.....
Q-7)What type of bait to use? Live prawn, dead prawn, worms?
A-live prawn for best result, but not sure about worms. Dead prawn not as good as live prawn . Most fish at kelong are usually escapee and they get used to eat fish bait, so using tambam is quite good too. But the over all best bait is LUCK! when no luck , even with using the best bait in the world, fish just wont bite mean they really not going to bite.
Q-8)Need to bring bait from Singapore?
A-best is to bring bait from Singapore, yes the kelong does provide bait like tambam, but I never 100% depend n that as sometime not much bait fish caught. Or someone might already have taken all the bait......
