what bottom rod poundage i should be looking at to be able to manage 1kg-1.5kg (dunno what size) sinker? the place i am going, current is strong and is a wreck spot....need heavy sinker.

hi mate, you probably need 50-80lbs rods. you are likely to be fishing the fishing channels of singapore for snappers.

personally i have given up baiting with heavy sinkers. its a ^@%^@%$@@!! chore to crank up that lump of lead. lol

bro remember make sure your reel can take the cranking power of your 1 kg or 1.5 kg sinker. Happy fishing

first time going spot that need such heavy sinker. Now having second though, probably just bring my medium heavy jigging gears plus luring gear, instead of buying such heavy action boat rod and use that one time only...

just an update - went to Joe and got myself a cheap cheap Seahawk butt joint boat rod., 20-50lbs, glass blank with graphite reinforced backbone. It's heavy but cheap (as not often i need to use 1kg sinker), and boss said it can do the job.
