Located off the east coast of Malaysia, Sibu Island is a short drive and ferry ride away from Singapore and the Kelongs operating off the island are popular a popular destination for Singaporeans looking for some relaxed fishing and seaside adventures. SIM Angling club will be heading to a particular Ah Fatt’s Kelong that is well known for its family friendly amenities and good fishing.
At Ah Fatt’s Kelong, there are plenty of activities to keep anglers and non-anglers occupied. Mahjong and Karaoke fill up the time in between frenzied sessions of fishing where the bountiful sea yield up catch after catch of selar, kambong, kuning and many other saltwater species one can commonly find at the market. Being built on hardy wooden stilts designed to withstand the currents of the sea, the very same stilts provide shelter for shoals of baitfish and form a mazelike trap to hold these fish all year round. Thus, anglers are dropping their lines directly into a frenetic buzz of bigger predatory fish chasing the baitfish schools and it is not uncommon to bring up a fish only to find it half eaten by an opportunistic barracuda!
Besides kelong based activities, Ah Fatt also caters to boat anglers wanting to hit big fish further out at sea as well as short hops to Sibu Island to explore the beaches and villages.
As per usual, all meals on the kelong and transport are already provided for, SIMAC will provide tamban jigs and sinkers but we will organise a tackle buying trip for those with no rod and reel, because we only have 5 club rods to lend out:P
Guys, me Ben and Ian will be in front of the canteen on 10 11 17 18 November (Mon and Tues) to advertise the Kelong Trip and register people so you can either register then or contact us thru email or phone.
Cheers,
Jeremy
