eg. 8-15Ib = P.E? Please advise. Thnx General idea is PE 1 = 10lbs. But these days, you have to watch out for the ratings of the line which can vary greatly. I am using Varivas Casting PE 2.5 = 28lbs (from their packaging). And the latest line they have Varivas Casting Max is rated PE 2 at 33lbs. Thinner and yet stronger... so be very careful when buying your tackle. |

eg. 8-15Ib = P.E? Please advise. Thnx First you need to understand PE itself is not a line weight rating. It is merely a measurement for the diameter of the line. Therefore, you can't convert PE into poundage mathematically... at least not directly. Read through this old thread to get some idea.
You can have two lines from two manufacturers with the same PE rating, but in terms of line strength (poundage) they differ. In the olden days, you can work well with the PE 1 = 10 lbs assumption but with the superlines we have these days, it's no longer accurate. Perhaps only for monofilament. |

YGK brand PE0.8 - 13 lbs. But I relise luring or bottom rod comes in poundage only Jigging or popping rod comes in PE rating. There are also like the marketing of different country but that another topic. But generally PE1 - 10lbs as Micheal had stated. SportAngler |
