Hi everyone. I am new to jigging and would like to seek advice on what set up to get.

I will be fishing in the region in sg and probably maximum up to scs. Preferably around SGD500+- range and most importantly is for the whole set to be light in weight as I would like to spend my energy on fighting fish than working the jigs.

Currently I have a range of jigs from 20g to 60g. Will that suffice for the fish and current around this region?

Thanks in advance everyone! Very Happy

Hi, i would recommend micro jig in local waters and if you are gOing to scs, u may need up to 100g. So one set up alone is not enough.
Im not able to provide you an answer regarding your light weight set , cause its quite related to the bigger size of reel the heavier it will weigh and the weight of jigs used.
Light tackle with heavier jig, you will see your rod over acting.
Heavy tackle with lighter jig, bad jig action

Ripple Fisher pe 8 + Stella 14k (Popping)
Ripple Fisher pe 6 + Twin Power 12k
(Popping)
Ripple Fisher pe 6 + Accurate BX-2 500
Ripple Fisher pe 5 + Stella SW 8000 PG

Thanks for the info bro ckjh. I would guess I shall stick to baiting for local waters then.

As such, looking at a suitable set for maybe desaru, rompin or scs, will a PE 1-3 rod suffice? or do I need a heavier rod?

If u talking about light jigging at this locations than pe1-3 sure more than enuf and with $500+ budget you can definitely get a good & decent light jigging set such as Ebek Delight + Stardic 2500 or Versa Pitch + Biomaster 4000.

Happy Shopping

Thanks for the recommendations bro Jigdemon. Gonna go down to Kaiser to try out the 2 rods one of this days.

I have tried holding a Biomaster 4000 before and it felt rather heavy compared to a Stradic ci4 4000. However I noticed that the spool is deeper for the Biomaster. Is it important to spool in higher lbs line for jigging at these areas so as to lift the fish up faster to avoid structures or can I just spool in lower lbs lines and let the fish run?

Diff materials used to manufacture the body frame therefore the Stardic ci4 is lighter than Biomaster for sure.

When people talking about light jigging normally they used line poundage range from 10lbs to 15lbs and you must join your main line to a shock leader (mono line) approx. 15ft to 20ft with higher poundage. A simple and rough guide about the shock leader poundage is 2X your main line poundage.

One of the reason that the shock leader is used is to prevent your line being cut-off so easily by the structures but no matter what if the fish really run into the hole than it is also time to say bye bye to your fish.

Oic. So it all comes down to the technique of fighting the fish I guess?

If I get a Versa pitch and rarenium ci4+ c3000 with 15lbs line and 30lbs shock leader it shld be fine right?

I have heard from some people that HG is needed for jigging. Is it necessary? Coz the shop uncle say that HG would also mean that the power of the reel will be diminished.

I should say YES or NO because luck also play a major part of it.

Yes, this setup is good to go.

The someone must be giving you the wrong info because HP model normally used for popping while PG model than used for jigging. To me I don't see any diff for light jigging be it HP or PG model since I have tried both and both work well so far.

"Power of the reel" may be someone tell me how to define this one ??? Just ask yourself if a PG model can bring up a 40kg GT on jig and a HG model can land a 40kg GT on popper so what power of the reel everyone is talking about ???
