Hello all kelong experts,

I would like some recommendations on which Sibu kelong to choose for an overnight weekend stay. I'm organizing a trip for 12 persons, and not all of them are fishing enthusiasts... it's mainly for the experience of staying in a kelong, hence... the state of the kelong (cleanliness, facilities e.g. mahjong, games, fishing, food) is our topmost concern.

Initially, I wanted to book Hotboys, but after reading some of the reviews here (the state of the kelong appears to be deteriorating), I decided that perhaps Ah Ngan or Ah Fatt might be a better choice. However, I can't seem to find any website to show pictures of Ah Ngan, and there is no email contact for Ah Fatt, so I can't write to them to enquire about the dates, cost, and vacancies.

Would appreciate if someone could give me some advice on which of the two kelongs (Ah Ngan or Ah Fatt) is better for an overnight stay... bearing in mind, we're taking this trip as a short getaway break, and not every one in the group is going to be fishing.

Is there island hopping for the above kelongs..? It'd be really neat to be able to do some swimming from the shore.

Many thanks!! Laughing

PS: I wrote to Hotboys Kelong, and they admitted that the previous owners did not take very good care of the kelong, and now... the current owners are trying their best to do some renovations and improvement works...but that will be an ongoing process. Hence, if you're thinking of staying at Hotboys in the immediate future, you might wish to wait a little longer till it's restored to its old glory. Arrow

I been to Ah Fatt a few times, they provide trips to Pulau Sibu, do call them. One thing that brings me to Ah Fatt, is the food they prepare.

Thanks guys! Our group is going to Ah Fatt tomorrow, and I'll give a short update of our impressions after the trip. Few of us will be fishing there....

Looking forward to this weekend getaway!

I'll try Chia Soon next time. Ah Fatt made himself more available via contact - he responded to my Line messages (Android app), had the transport company contact me to arrange for our group to be picked up in Singapore for the trip. This makes it convenient for a group of 12 as it'll be our first time there and we don't want the stress of driving in separate cars.

Will give a short review after our trip!

Our group just spent a most enjoyable, idyllic time at Ah Fatt kelong. The staff were helpful, and they took the initiative to meet all the requirements we had previously discussed.

Food was good, the toilets were clean and over all, everyone had a fantastic time.

Fishing wise, there weren't many good catches at the kelong during this trip. There were other families who were fishing and there weren't many big fishes to be caught.

My friend caught 5 kunings, and that was it. Guess we'll have to charter a boat out if we wanted bigger fishes.

The sunset and sunrise were gorgeous... Attached pics of the sunset, and sunrise.

I prefer ah ngan for the clean bed and also helpful staff. But ah fatt have more space for fishing and also sell live prawns. ah fatt more big fishes action while ah ngam got mid size grouper under the kelong. So if let me stay there for 1 week i will reco ah ngam with sofa and tv with KTV old songs function.
